With summer having been and gone, and the colder nights well and truly upon us, it can be tempting to wrap up and go for functionality rather than fashion when heading out for the night. However, that certainly doesn’t have to be the case. Whilst it might be advisable to wear a long jacket and scarf combination when heading out in a winter night, nobody ever said what you’re wearing under it needs to be any less stylish than ever.
Evening dresses are, perhaps, even better suited to nights out later on in the year than they are in the summer. After all, nothing looks better on a cold winter’s night than some of the classy shades of colour and materials used in them, and the inability to expose too much skin in the colder weather also makes them a bit more practical than a summer dress!
Formal occasions are also a regular fixture throughout the latter half of the year, and evening dresses are sure to impress at any social gathering, be it a gathering at Christmas, a New Year’s celebration, a wedding or even a work’s night out if it’s in the right location. It’s worth remembering that an evening dress works better in a more formal situation rather than a relaxed one.
This year, there is a distinct trend towards darker colours in evening dresses, with blacks and dark greys featuring prominently in many autumn and winter collections. Similarly, dark purples and strong reds also feature heavily in many collections, but lighter colours remain popular too, with turquoise and whites also featuring. In particular, black dresses with flashes of white or cream are a strong look this season, and can really help to bring out the most in your figure.
Ruffles are also going to be popular, and whether you want to go for a dress that has plenty, or opt for one with a more subtle approach (such as one with a ruffled detail on one shoulder) they should always go down well, whatever the occasion.
There are plenty of different styles of evening dresses
